La Orquesta del Plata
Where Tradition Meets Passion

With its roots in the Milonga at Teatro del Plata in Mataderos, one of the City of Buenos Aires’ public theater network, and led by musician and composer Poly Pérez, La Orquesta del Plata was created to celebrate the essence of traditional tango while opening the door to new sounds and possibilities.
Deeply rooted in the tango tradition, the orchestra builds a bridge between the classic, the popular, and the contemporary. Its repertoire moves through tangos, waltzes, and milongas, drawing on the history and richness of these genres while bringing them to life with a fresh, energetic, and deeply emotional approach.
La Orquesta del Plata has performed at some of the most significant venues and events of the tango scene. It has taken part in several editions of the Tango BA Festival, performed during the Bares Notables series, at the iconic milonga hosted by the French Embassy, in the Main Hall of Teatro del Plata, in the Salón Dorado of the Casa de la Cultura, at the National Academy of Tango, and at Teatro 25 de Mayo, the historic venue where Carlos Gardel gave his final performance for a Buenos Aires audience on September 10, 1933.
As part of the Cultura Teatral series, La Orquesta del Plata performed the live score for El Troesma, a musical and theatrical show paying tribute to Carlos Gardel, alongside the renowned artist Marcelo Mazzarello, presented at various theaters across the city and at the 2025 edition of the Tango BA Festival.
In 2025, the orchestra toured Madrid, performing at several venues and events across the city, including the tango celebration at Matadero Madrid, Casa de Vacas in Retiro Park, Puente del Rey, and the season presentation at Teatros del Canal.
Each La Orquesta del Plata performance creates an atmosphere where the depth of traditional tango, the movement of the waltz, and the vibrant energy of the milonga come together.
Its instrumental identity is complemented by a distinctive vocal presence, adding another dimension to the orchestra’s rich and expressive sound.
More than simply performing a repertoire, La Orquesta del Plata seeks to create a genuine connection with its audience. Its music moves, connects, and brings back the spirit of the dance floor, carrying tango tradition into new experiences and onto new stages.
The repertoire features a carefully selected collection of works representing different periods and styles within the genre, combining timeless classics with a contemporary perspective that brings freshness, character, and vitality.
From Mataderos to stages around the world, La Orquesta del Plata keeps the passion for Argentine music alive, turning every performance into a celebration of Argentina’s popular culture.
