The musicians

Bass player, double bassist, composer, programmer and visual artist. A defining trait of his work is its artistic autonomy: he composes, produces and works in small formats that build a singular identity, apart from conventional models.

The creator of several concert series, in 2020 he formed La Orquesta del Plata —a Teatro San Martín project developed at Teatro del Plata in Mataderos— where he plays electric double bass.

He is a leading figure and one of the foremost researchers of the Chapman Stick, a hybrid string instrument combining elements of bass and guitar and played using the tapping technique. On that instrument he created the project OnOff, which took him to Berlin, London and Madrid and led him to share the stage with Tony Levin, Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, Kingfish, Nick Cave and Yngwie Malmsteen, among others.

He is the musical director of El Troesma, starring Marcelo Mazzarello, a tribute to Carlos Gardel; artistic producer of the tango ensemble Hora Cero, led by maestro Gilardoni; and a collaborator on projects such as Nacha canta Benedetti, with Nacha Guevara and Eduardo Favero.

Bandoneon player and teacher. He graduated from the Leopoldo Marechal School of Art as a bandoneon teacher.

He has been a member of numerous tango ensembles, touring the entire milonga circuit of Buenos Aires and performing at leading festivals across the country.

He has accompanied figures such as Hugo Marcel, Abel Córdoba, Juan Carlos Godoy, Ricardo “Chiqui” Pereyra and Guillermo Galve, among others.

As a bandoneon player he was a resident musician at emblematic Buenos Aires tango houses, among them La Ventana, El Viejo Almacén and Esquina Homero Manzi.

He is today one of the central musicians of La Orquesta del Plata, an ensemble he has been part of since its very first line-up.

Leandro Vílchez, better known as “Tata”, is an Argentine musician, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, known above all as a guitarist, guitarrón player and pianist within tango, folk music and the popular music of the River Plate.

He holds a degree in Musical and Sound Arts with a specialisation in Choral Conducting from the “Carlos López Buchardo” Department of Musical and Sound Arts (IUNA), Buenos Aires.

He has sung with the Choir of the UBA School of Medicine, conducted by Darío Ingignoli; the Lagún Onak Choral Association, conducted by Miguel Ángel Pesce; and the Zahir Chamber Choir, conducted by Diego Boero, with whom he staged the show Ciudades Imaginarias at the Manufactura Papelera.

He has performed with distinguished national symphonic bodies: the Association of Musicians of the Teatro Colón Resident Orchestra, the Música sin Edad Symphony Orchestra and the Música Concertante de Buenos Aires Chamber Orchestra.

He has accompanied tango ensembles such as La Falluta and La Rueda Milonguera, and has been the guitarist of La Orquesta del Plata since its beginnings.

Musician, teacher and artistic director with over fifteen years of experience in tango, Argentine folk music and Afro-Porteño rhythms.

He led the recovery and direction of the Orquesta Típica Sebastián Piana, founded in 1940 by the composer of Milonga del 900, Milonga sentimental, Milonga triste, Viejo ciego, El pescante, Tinta roja and Sobre el pucho, and the creator of the milonga-candombe genre.

He took part in the tributes to Pepe Colángelo at the Buenos Aires Tango Festival and at Palacio Libertad, and served as assistant and collaborator on two editions of the Iguazú en Concierto International Children’s Festival.

He is the co-editor, with Shino Ohnaga, of the book Sebastián Piana en Tinta Roja (2023), which brings together the compilation and transcription of twelve piano works, research into Afro-Argentine influence on tango, and texts by Juan Falú, Lidia Borda and Susana Rinaldi. The project was presented in Argentina and across eight Japanese prefectures, in twenty-three concerts and lectures.

A distinguished Argentine tango singer, recognised on the Buenos Aires music circuit for her barrio style. Her voice is marked by the classic influences of Roberto Grela’s guitars and the phrasing of Nelly Omar.

She has made her name at the city’s emblematic Bares Notables, among them Café Tortoni, Bar de los Angelitos, El Gato Negro and Esquina Homero Manzi. She has collaborated with maestro Moscato Luna.

Her musical search is reflected in unorthodox arrangements that hold on to the origins of the River Plate style and its many forms —tango, candombe, milonga and waltz— and has taken her to Baja California Sur (Mexico), the United Arab Emirates and Europe.

With La Orquesta del Plata she was the lead voice of the show El Troesma.
